Internet forum privacy laws?
I help run a large internet forum that servers the internet (ie the world) but is based in Melbourne, Australia.
The forum is the same as any forum and asks for name, birthdate and email address. Standard stuff.
If a member signs up and then wishes to leave the forum - am I legally obligated to delete the forum account - and the personal data - or do I simply have to provide the means for them to delete/alter the data themselves?
I want to leave the account intact so the users name/tag/nick remains but I really don't care about the personal data behind it once the user has left.
Am I forced by law to delete the whole account? I read somewhere that information provided on a forum is owned by the forum users. I also read that I don't have to delete the data if I can provide the user a means to control their own data.
Any links to any document, law, govt body or website is super appreciated. Thx.
Dont know about Australia but in the UK we have data protection laws that cover data rentention. We are legally obliged to retain personal data for 6 months after the user departs. HOWEVER, im pretty sure that if the end user requests to have their information removed it can be done instantly. Sorry i cant offer more help
Is it true that Cecelia Ahern's Book "If You Could See Me Now" will be a movie in the future?
Well, i've been looking around internet forums about the book and then I searched it on Wikipedia then it appeared that it will have a movie. I just need to know the whole truth and I need a clarification.
I've read that Hugh Jackman (Australia, X-Men Trilogy, Van Helsing) will play Ivan and the rest of the casting isn't completed. I just need to know.
The movie rights to "If You Could See Me Now" have been sold. Whether it is actually made into a film remains to be seen. It apparently is in development with Disney at this time and is scheduled for release sometime in 2011. Hugh Jackman as been signed. What is an internet quota?
i was on a forum thread with a video link on it and a user said they didn't want to watch it because of their internet quota dwindling. i did a search on it and mostly all i got was australian college websites talking about student internet quotas. so is this something only in australia...?
Quota means..Like a head count, as far as how many people viewed the video, or are viewing it.
